| These training days are for new members wanting to participate in the whitewater activities and the longer multiday trips over spring and summer. Participants will have to attend one of the work days prior to the training day so they understand the work they will be required to do as part of the longer trips before undertaking the other training.
This is a grade three course and we will be using whitewater instructors.
This project is funded by The NSW Environmental Trust

Be warned joggers do not like to be wet for any period of time and so new joggers will be ruined after one day of paddling· Shorts and T shirt (or thermals or wet suit) to do the swimming and paddling in. It is best to ware the clothes you would normally paddle in so you know if they will cope and keep you warm.· Rain coat or umbrella in case it is raining during the theory session.· Towel and dry clothes for the end of the day· There is a café at the stadium so you can buy lunch, snacks and drinks or bring them with you.· Each of the group leaders will need to bring emergency contact phone numbers for the participants under their control and will also need to sign consent letters on behalf of their parents Willow Warriors will bring:· 7 throw bags for rescue training. · Personal Trip pack for Wilderness Awareness Session. Penrith Whitewater Stadium will provide: · whitewater gear (PFD and Helmet)· instructors· the venue for the event Directions to get there:The Penrith Whitewater stadium is in McCarthy's Lane Cranebrook (Penrith). If you are coming via the M4 take the first exit and follow the blue signs to the Regatta Centre and Whitewater Stadium until you get to the roundabout at the eastern end of the Regatta Centre and then just follow the signs to the Whitewater Stadium. Entry to the stadium is free for spectators and there is a great café if you want a cappuccino and cake or lunch between sessions or while you watch. Spectators can walk around the stadium but you must not leave the footpath to get closer to the water channel. The safety staff get rally upset because if you fall in on the far side of the channel is harder to rescue you from where they operate on the inside of the channel.
The program for the day: · Meet at 10am near the café.· Organise the disclaimer forms you will need to sign to use the facility · 10:15 to 11:30pm Theory session about water flowing in water courses and general safety.
