Yes. CSIRO research scientist Tanya Doody has found that the evaporative loss of one hectare of willows is enough to supply about 17 households each year.

Tanya has carried out two research projects the first on Yenko Creek near Jerilderie NSW comparing the evapotranspiration on willows on the bank and in stream with river red gums. the second research project in north east Victoria compared the water usage of grey sallow willows on the bank and in the water with local native vegetation

Tanya's initial research was presented at the 2009 River Symposium in Brisbane And release in a CSIRO publication "Removing willows can generate big water savings". the detailed report was also published in the Journal of Environmental Management 1-10. The finding from Tanya's second project were announced by CSIRO December 2010
