A three day paddle to check for regrowth of black willows along a section of river where just the black willows were treated in April 2007. We only treated about 10 black willows some in the section not treated previously because there were only one or two and the others were previously missed or survived the initial treatment. We found only two new seedlings and so there is no indications of black willows continuiong to spread in this reach. Although there were some willows that looked like hybrid black willows because they had red twigs and were coming into leaf during the paddle and black willows come into leaf later than the other willlows. However these willows had a rounded shape crown where as black willows tend to have a more pointed crown. Some had female flowers. The next monitoring trip should occur in Spring 2011.
